A small town in SE Saskatchewan near Yorkton is home to some big money, or at least one very special large loonie. To celebrate Canada's 125th birthday, the Canadian mint held a design contest for the commemorative Loonie. Of all the entries, the winner was Rita Swanson from Churchbridge. To celebrate the winning design, a very large bronze loonie was commisioned at a cost of $32,000 loonies. Resting on top of a concrete base, it sits 6 feet in diameter and was unveiled on June 29th 1993. Now that's a big buck!
