These caches takes you along the old railway line that takes you from Senghenydd to Caerphilly, These can be done as a series or as a standalone cache, Some of the Caches take you off the cycle route slightly past points of interest. i believe the route is wheelchair accessible, there are one or two of those turn style things to stop motor bikes from accessing the cycle path. if I'm wrong and it proves non accessible by wheelchair please let me know and i will amend it.
This Cache is just off route and can not be reached by wheelchair.
The line opened on 1st February 1894 and closed on 15 June 1964, it was used not just for passengers but also to transport coal from the colliery in Senghenydd.
On the24th May 1901 Senghenydd had its first of two mining disasters where 81 miners lost their lives the second disaster on 14th October 1913 Senghenydd fell victim of a mining disaster where 439 miners lost their lives. There are a few memorials to the disaster located along the route you may like to visit, some of these are additional way points and some are cache locations. There is much more I could say about the disaster but why not visit the museum in Senghenydd and find out for yourselves.
