This cache was established by YTA Angie on Cinco De Mayo 2002. By
the end of 2002, both the cache and Angie went missing, though the
cache was never archived or disabled. Relatives of the Arizona
Ranger Team moved up to the Chino Valley area in 2004, so we
decided to adopt and re-establish the cache. It is once again, a
real, live Geocache. Cachers, come and get it!
The cache is a standard .30 caliber ammo can with log book and
trinkets. We will be visiting the area frequently, so we can keep a
good eye on it to make sure it stays live and well.
Directions:
Take Hwy 89 21.8 mi north from the Antelope Hills Golf Course; turn
right at the Depot 89 gas station onto Old Route 89. Soon
thereafter, turn left heading toward Sweet Valley Ranch. After
passing the ranch, you'll need to head south toward the river.
Someone has blocked the road with a bunch of rocks (state land -
why?), but a bypass is easily findable. Just before reaching the
canyon, the road becomes extremely rocky. Depending on your
vehicle, you may want to park here and continue on foot. If you
have a jeep or similar sturdy vehicle you can continue driving over
the rocks to a gate at the head of a footpath that descends into
the canyon. Once down, you can mostly stay on a trail on the north
bank of the river to reach the cache. There's only one little patch
of bushwacking to cross a side canyon on the way. After that, stay
on the "high trail" for easiest passage. Great views on this
hike!
