This particular hill was used for defensive purposes since the first Centuries A.D. until early 13th Century when the wooden fort was presumably destroyed. There was no paved road that separated the hill from the Lake Velys back in the ancient times. The lake served as a good source of some fresh-water fish as well as helped to defend the settlement from the NW direction.
Locals take some pretty good care of the hill, keep it jungle free. They recently installed a wooden stairway all the way up to the summit. On your half way up you will find a modest monument to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Vytautas Didysis death.
Take a breather and enjoy your picnic at a well equipped rest place at the foot of the hill beside the road. The cache is a small food box capable to host a small trackable and a few pieces of tiny swag. You may want to modify the improvised logbook, that was all I had at the moment.
