This is All that remains of the folkestone seafront. it has seen many changes in the years, and many more to come.
During my childhood this area was used as the Rotunda Amusement Park, with rides for all ages. It was a major focal point for all the family.
It has seen many facelifts over the years. below are a few examples;

The Victoria Pier was opened on July 1888.
The structure boasted a fine and commodious pavilion that could seat 800 patrons and this was leased out to theatrical companies who provided suitable high-brow entertainments for Folkestone’s largely aristocratic clientele. The pavilion held a six day publican’s licence and housed refreshment bars on the ground floor and a kitchen, dining room, bureau and balcony on the first floor. A stroll on the pier cost 2d.
The pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1945 (a regular occurunce on the south coast)and was dismantled in 1954.

The Future
A masterplan for Folkestone which was published in April 2006. The plans describe the rebuilding of the harbour as a marina, a "Green Wave" along the sea front linking countryside west and east of the town, new housing, shops, a performance area and small university campus.
Progress in developing the area has been inhibited by the recession and by new guidelines governing flood protection.
The former fairground site is being considered for temporary recreational use whilst planning takes place.
do you have any fond memorys from this spot, maybe some old pictures.
