Geocache Description:

IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO GO OFF THE TRAIL FOR THIS ONE. The Williamson Valley Road Series is a Friends of Morgan Ranch Nature Park history project. Even numbered caches are on the E side of the Rd; odd on the W for 44 mi. WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU WORK 1 SIDE OF THE ROAD AT A TIME. Please pick up trash so the neighborhood trash-pickers are not drawn to the location.

HARDYVILLE TOLLROAD The Hardyville Toll Road, built in the 1860s, spanned a distance of 165 miles, from the Colorado River near what is now Bullhead City, to Fort Whipple in Prescott. Many travelers ascending into the Walnut Creek area homesteaded the fertile lands at the foot of the Juniper Mountains. When they needed supplies and a market for their bounty, they traversed the Hardyville Road to nearby towns. The present-day Williamson Valley Road and Simmons Highway closely follows the same route. West along Walnut Creek there are remnants of a hand-stacked rock wall on the Hardyville Road that was used to keep wagons out of the creek and shore up a passageway along a wash through what is now the Prescott National Forest.
