Geocache Description:

This is the first in a series of local church locations.  This first one is located at (newly renamed!) Pleasant City Baptist Church. Congratulations to Sporter723 for FTF!!

This is an easy park and grab in a typical location.  You are looking for a pill bottle, twist and lock cap.

History: In the 1930s, about 12 families lived in the area. By 1948, it had grown into a nice sized community, including gas stations and a furniture store. Many of the families went to various churches in the area, and included Baptists, Methodists, and Presbyterians. In 1948 the Kings Mountain Baptist Association noticed the growth and thought this would be a nice area for a church location. They set up a tent revival on the Roland Gantt property. The 2 week revival began on June 5, 1949 and was well attended. After it was over, the locals decided to put on a Vacation Bible School, and later a Sunday School. On October 2, 1949 a committee decided to organize a church. The church was named after the late Rev. D.F. Putnam, who had been a missionary pastor with a call to start churches. (Full name was Putnam Memorial Baptist Church). The first building was small but completed in December 1949. Today, Pleasant City Church (the name was changed from Putnam Baptist Church on January 1, 2018 to better represent the "City of Pleasant Living", which is Shelby's label) holds 2 morning services on Sundays and is in plans to build a new sanctuary on site. The pastor is Bryan Glisson and more information can be found at www.pleasantcitychurch.com
