Jacob's Ladder was originally built as a series of wooden steps by the local Boy Scout group in 1913 for use by the workers of the local carpet factory and gunpowder mills, they were maintained until 1968 when the carpet factory closed. They then fell into disrepair until restored by members of the Roslin Heritage Society, using recycled concrete kerbstones lowered by ropes to their final position & railway sleepers. 129 steps were built but I usually lose count on the way up so I'm taking the Heritage Society's word for it!!!
If coming from Roslin Glen Country Park go out of the front gates, turn right and walk along the pavement until you see a footpath to your right.
