This cache covers two significant areas. Vault Hill and the old Maternity Hospital. The cache is located in a lovely little park where the kids can play on the equipment while you find the cache, sign the log and learn a bit more about 'haunted' Picton. There is ample parking in the carpark beside the park, or on the street.
Looking over the park where the cache is located is Vault Hill. This place is said to be haunted by members of the Antill family. It is apparently where early settler Henry Antill is buried, allegedly upright at his own request, so that he could better overlook his domain. It is currently on private property.
The cemetery consists of a number of headstones, vault and iron enclosures. amid mature trees overlooking "Jarvisfield", now the Antill Park Golf Clubhouse. There is a seperate cache for 'Jarvisfield'. The identifiable graves include those of Margaret, Mary (wife of Edward), Selina, Edward, Harley, and Robert Antill .The vault is the burial place for Major H C Antill and twelve close members of the family. The cemetery and surrounds are now overgrown.
The other significant place for this cache is located two doors up from the park on the corner of Argyle and Downing Streets, known as the old Maternity Hospital, it is said to be haunted. Crying babies and the ghost of an unpleasant matron apparently haunt Picton's beautiful old maternity hospital. This is a private residence. It is said that visitors to the residence claim to have been woken up in the middle of the night by invisible hands wrapped around their throats.
