Geocache Description:

The Opax Mountain Silviculture Systems Research Project was started in 1993 to understand the options and consequences of different management systems on a range of forest values. (http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/rsi/research/opax/index.htm)  An interpretive trail was developed to highlight the different elements of the forest ecosystem.  The trail is made up of 18 stations, which, except for one, are still there. The only information I have found about these stations is at the following website: http://www.mcqueenlake.com/opaxinttrailmap.html

I have been enjoying snowshoeing in the area, so I decided to place a few geocaches along the interpretive trail for other geocachers on snowshoes to find.  The trail is not always easy to find and follow, but that just adds to the fun. The caches are also available in summer, when the trail should be easier to follow.

The main parking lot for the interpretive trail is not accessible in winter, but if you park at the coordinates listed, it is not far to the trail. Just walk the short distance to the waypoint listed, and you will be on a good trail. From the winter parking, the whole trail is about 5 km. If you are doing this trip with young children, or you do not want to do 5 km, you can do the caches in multiple trips, coming to them from various angles.

All the caches have been hidden so that they can be found in winter, regardless of the amount of snow. They are camouflaged match containers, and you need to bring your own writing instrument.
