Geocache Description:

Den nuvarande S:t Johannes kyrka byggdes efter ritningar av stadsarkitekt Karl Flodin och är byggd av gråsten i nygotisk stil. Kyrkan invigdes 1906.

ENG: St John´s church opened in 1906 and is built in granite and in neo-Gothic style.

Den första St Johannes kyrka var stadens äldsta och rester finns mitt i centrum, idag kallad Hörsalen. Under byggnaden finns resterna av de första grundvalarna från 1100-talet och plomberade gravvalv.
De tre korsfönstren är ut förda av konstnären Bo Beskow 1970. Det vänstra är ett Mariafönster och det högra visar Johannes döparen, som församlingen är tillägnad. Mittfönstret har en Kristusbild. Johannes vägröjande svärd och Marias oskuldslilja möts under Kristi fötter i mittfönstret.
Det mesta av kyrkans inredning härstammar från byggnadstiden. Altaret är gjort i Gotlandsmarmor och dopfunten i Kolmårdsmarmor. Ljuskronorna är från 1700-talet och altartavlan är hitflyttade från den gamla kyrkan. Altartavlan är målades 1848 av C W Nordgren.

ENG: The first St. John Church was the oldest and the residue is right in the center, now called the Auditorium. During the building are the remains of the first bases from the 1100s and sealed tomb.The three cross windows is out performed by the artist Bo Beskow 1970. The left is Maria Window and the right shows John the Baptist church is dedicated. My screen has an image of Christ. John vägröjande sword and Mary's virginity lily meet under Christ's feet in the center pane. Most of the church's interior is derived from the construction. The altar is made of Gotland Marble and baptismal font in Kolmården. The chandeliers are from the 1700s and the altarpiece is transported from the old church. The altarpiece was painted in 1848 by CW Nordgren.
