Geocache Description:

Henry Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period and is often called Australia's greatest short story writer. He was as Australian as billy tea and proud of it. He was bred during the continent's turbulent emergence as an identity and idealised the gold digger, the stockman, drover and shearer.

Henry Lawson's parents brought him to the Gulgong area when he was an infant, and he spent his childhood and early teens in locations between Mudgee and Gulgong. The scenes and experiences of these years influenced Lawson enormously. They appear, with vivid clarity, in many of his works.

This series of geocaches has been put together to commemorate the life and works of Henry Lawson and to allow you to become familiar with some of his works. Appropriately, the series is located along Henry Lawson Drive linking the towns of Mudgee and Gulgong.
