Constantin Alexandru Rosetti (June 2, 1816 –April 8, 1885) was a major political figure, born in Bucharest into a Phanariot Greek family of Italian origin. Rosetti took active part in the 1848 Revolution and was among the ones who have been arrested by Prince Gheorghe Bibescu. Together with Nicolae Bălcescu, Alexandru G. Golescu and Ion C. Brătianu he served as a secretary of the Provisional Government until the end of June. In August he was appointed as director of the Interior Ministry. When the revolution was put to an end he was arrested and together with the other leaders (Brătianu brothers, Bălcescu) was forced to go into exile in France. While in exile, he published a review favoring the creation of a national unitary state. He returned to Romania in 1861 and was elected as deputy.
