Geocache Description:

Looking back (Coming About) I began to think about some of the people that I had met over the years. I had lost contact with most of these men and women and would probably never see most of them again. I tried to imagine what they had gone on to do with their lives. These were but a few of the great friends that I had made in my years as a US Navy sailor.

Master Chief Boatswain's Mate John Oberster. We met when we both served aboard the USS Schenectady. He worked fiberglass repair as a civil service worker after his enlistment. We remain close friends and stay in touch to this day. John was from Ohio.

Electrician's Mate Apprentice Don Sutton. Don went on to marry a Wave (female sailor) that was stationed at the same base as us. I imagine Don managing a hardware store back in New York.

Store Keeper First Class Peter Scheile. He was kind of a nature boy. He probably went on to work as a park ranger in his home state of California.

Equipment Operator Constructionman Rosa Lynn Akree. A green eyed blonde from Texas. Last I heard she had married another Sea Bee and moved on. She was a wild one back then.

Electricians Mate 3rd Class David Quatrochiocci. Dave was a member of UDT Seal Team 1. After his enlistment, he attended Southwestern Community College as an art major. He is probably teaching art class back in New York somewhere. We were civilian roommates for a while after our hitches.

Radarman Recruit Frank Burns. On weekends he would drive up to Carlsbad Raceway and race his Super Bee on the quarter mile. I would tag along as a member of the pit crew. He's probably still building race cars back in Maryland.

Machinist's Mate Fireman Thomas Orwell Harrison. Tom was another car buff. I imagine he owns an auto repair shop in southern Arizona.

Yeoman 2nd Class Jay Robbins. We met in boot camp, served onboard the USS Hanson and had shore duty together. He is probably living the hippy life in upper Michigan, teaching kids how to play guitar for a living.

Quartermaster Master Chief Randy Strait. I saw Randy just a few years ago. He's single and driving semi in Texas for a living. We still keep in touch.

Hull Tech 1st class Ron Maez. Ron was always the health nut. He is probably still working out and is the owner of a chain of health food stores in Idaho.

Boiler Tech 3rd Class Mark Gabrilska. Being a Boiler Tech while enlisted, I imagine Mark would own his own home heating and air conditioning business back in Wisconsin. Crazy Polock.

Radarman Seaman Bob Koltenbraun. Slick talking Bob. He probably went on to own a car dealership on the New Jersey shore.

Boatswains Mate 3rd Class Perry Peckham. Knowing Perry, he probably become a hotshot defense attorney back in Wisconsin.

Yeoman Master Chief Tommy Morrison. I imagine Tommy being a manager at a bank back in his home state of Texas for some reason.

Damage Controlman Apprentice Sidney Eugene Babbit. Gene the giant. I picture him as working on a road construction crew back in Texas.

Personnelman Chief Ken Kroll. I stopped to see Ken a few years ago when I was out on the California coast. He was working as a food delivery/salesperson for a major supermarket chain.
