Redcoat on Redcoat - #10 in the KIDS FRIENDLY Series. British Puritans led by Reverend Henry Whitfield arrived in Guilford in 1639 and purchased land from Shaumpisbuh, the female chief of the Quinnipiac Tribe. The settlers established themselves as the Menucatuck Plantation, the native name for this area. Later this area became known as Guilford, named after the town outside of London, which had been home to many of the original settlers. In the 17th century Guilford became part of the the New Haven Colony, and then the Connecticut Colony. There are five Historic House Museums in Guilford including the Henry Whitfield House (1639) which is the oldest house in Connecticut, and the oldest stone house in North America. Cache: Unique outer container, kids may need help retrieving. Parking on the street. Hidden with permission of property owner, please be respectful of private property. CONGRATS to N1KSY on FTF.
