Geocache Description:

The posted coords are for a beginning point only - Once at posted coords follow the instructions below to find a blast from the past

This hike of about 3 miles (one way) will take you into Las Posadas State Forest. The challenge is to navigate to the final location using various directional tools. If your GPS doesn't include a compass,  you may want to bring one along. A good sense of elevation would be helpful. It should be noted that portions of the route may be seasonally wet. Here's how we measured distances. If you make a waypoint from which to measure a given distance forward as you walk, it will be a straight line from point A to point B. This is how we measured the given distances. Alternately you can clear the odometer on your GPS which then measures your track the way you walk. This will most likely show a longer distance than just a straight line.

Ready to get started? Here's the clues you need.

1. From the posted coordinates head 335 to 338 degrees True North for 0.40 miles

2. Turn 90 degrees with wood on your left & metal on your right as you pass the large Oak tree by 10 ft.

3. You will have a choice of 2 trails. Take the trail heading about 150 degrees SE. You will travel this trail for roughly 0.23 miles.

4. You are now at the intersection where Buley was almost run over by a beginning bike rider. Thankfully both parties survived the little bump. Take the trail heading SE. You will travel this trail for about 0.20 miles.

5. Now head North using a wide dirt road to a cement bridge that crosses Moore Creek. Choose the correct bridge to start your next measurement.

6. Continue NE for approximately 330 ft. If you go too far you will find a monster picnic table; snacking is welcomed.

7. Take a left turn and travel close to 0.20 miles on a lesser travelled road littered with pine cones. Roads rarely stay straight!

8. Find 3 small stumps, 7 pine trees, a big bush of PO, and a manzanita bush all clumped together. Turn NorthEast at this point and go 400ft uphill on the trail.

9. Go through the property line and take a heading of 105 degrees (North is 0 degrees). Keep hiking uphill & DOWN!

10. At the unnamed creek take an elevation reading and continue uphill to an elevation gain of approximately 16 feet. Turn left!

11. Take this meandering trail for 0.25 to 0.30 miles to a clump of dead madrone trees.

12. Just 20 feet to the EastNorthEast you will find the cache under a Basalt Block.

Good luck on getting out of this blast from the past!! You may need to use your bread crumb trail. Some of the caretakers don't smell so great. Last time we were here two mephitidae lead us out. So explore with caution!
