This area is known as Hobey’s Hollow by the locals. It is a beautiful area that can be accessed from Township Road 2. This is a B-level road (which means it is not maintained in the winter), from Canning Side Road and it will take you to two parking areas. The more adventurous person may want to try parking area 2. The road going down the hill to parking 2 has some large stones and ruts so parking 1 may be your preference.
Alternative parking can be found at parking 3. This parking 3 is at the dead end of Township Road 2 from Trussler Road. A walk down this path towards the iron walking bridge will bring you to the east side of Hobey’s Hollow.
There is a wonderful old iron walking bridge crossing the Nith River. The walking part of the bridge is iron mesh, so as you walk across you can see the river flowing below. This is a little unnerving for our dogs. The CN rail bridge can easily be seen from here.
At parking 2, the trail starts and is approximately a 2 km loop through the woods. You can venture down to the river at various locations but all the caches are hidden off the main trail, unless otherwise noted.
If you do decide to go off the main trail towards the river, beware of Giant Hog Weed along the river bank. There was evidence of some that had been killed earlier this year, but who knows what the new growing season will bring.
It is a scenic and easy walk through the woods.
