The "South State" boat launch at Higgins Lake is a unique area landmark. The lagoon / launch was constructed back in the mid-1950's as the need for a high volume boat launch at Higgins Lake was needed to accomodate the increasing boat traffic of vacationers.

The area today is at once a very serene place with specacular sunrises & sunsets throughout the year, or a major staging area for the huge "floatilla" boat parties during the summer weekends and holidays. It can go from supreme quiet with no-one-around one day to teeming with boats & people the next!
Typical busy summer weekend.
Party time at the S. State launch!
