This cache replaces a previous one by the NT, which went missing, Boom Boom Trail, GC3PTYR. After rain, the path can be very slippery and the river water level can be high - the cache will still be available - but just take care!
Directions: from LPW1, follow the tarmac track alongside the river. When it turns away, stay on the small path by the river with the leat on the left. The leat was the channel for carrying the water from a weir upstream to the gunpowder works, where it powered the mills. Continue upstream to the start of the leat; remains of the weir can be seen and you will pass various interesting features along the way. There's also great views of the river and the limestone cliffs on the other bank. Easy access to the river in places - good for dogs and humans when not in high flow.
The cache is a small tub, it's tied on, please be gentle and replace carefully. Once found, cross the bridge at the very end to the west side of the leat, and enjoy the walk down to LPW 2. Please note, there is no public access north to Hawes Bridge on this side of the river - fishermen only!
