Geocache Description:

If you are doing this series on your bike - and that is the intention then please note that between SCR12 and here there is a considerable pot-hole just as you pass the welcome to Shardlow sign on the main road. You have been warned, and I hope you don't hit it!

Stanton-by-Dale Cycle Ride

Geocaching isn’t always good for you – I am thinking of the hawthorns, stingy nettles and barbed wire. Not to mention the hours spent trying to find another cache even though it is raining and everyone just wants to get back the car. However, it has got me back on my bike enjoying some of the rural roads in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and most weekends I will try to do a 25 mile ride, with a cache-a-mile. This is my attempt to set up my own cycle-ride set of caches. It is 25 miles, has 20 caches of various sizes and can easily be shortened or done in stages. The ride  is mostly along roads that a cyclist with good road awareness would feel safe on. One or two exceptions are noted.

Cache 20 has previously been published under the name DRS5/SCR1 (now renamed DRS5/SCR20).

En route I reckon there are at least a dozen other caches so you could make a healthy caching afternoon here.

PLEASE NOTE: All these caches were placed from my bike. They are all placed where it was safe to dismount, hide the cache and get back on. None of them was placed with drive-by-caching in mind, and neither have I noted the presence or otherwise of footpaths and pavements. So the only attribute I have ticked on them all is “bike”. Many will be possible in the car but I cannot say where the closest safe parking spot will be. That is up to you!

Congratulations to the Old Soldier and Ey-up Me Duck on FTF. Thought this would be trickier than the average s/p nano
