Geocache Description:

This cache was placed on 9/10/13 next to the Metrolink Memorial site to commemorate the 5 year anniversary of the accident, which occurred on September 12th, 2008, at 4:22PM, and claimed 25 lives.

This cache is not near the tracks, you do not need to get any closer to the train platform than the memorial site is. Read the full description for more info.

Please respect the privacy of friends and family of those who passed in the accident. The cache is not placed in the memorial itself in order to not disturb anyone... (the cache is next to it). If you know anyone who passed in the accident, feel free to stop by and bring flowers. Flowers, candles, and other items left in the memorial are removed weekly by the city. The cache itself has room for small trinkets like coins and TBs.

I placed this cache in order to bring people out to the memorial site to take a look at it. It’s very well done and quite nice. There are benches to sit and enjoy and there are name plates for all of the people. There are great views of the mountains from this site as well.

Muggle count is near-zero during midday, but during the morning and early evening there are quite a few muggles in this area.

On September 12th, 2008, the Metrolink engineer ran a red signal while heading from Chatsworth to Simi Valley. The Metrolink commuter train collided head-on with a Union Pacific freight train, resulting in the loss of 25 lives as well as dozens more injuries. After the NTSB investigated, it was determined that the cause of the engineer running the red signal was because he was text messaging and distracted, and did not notice the signal.
