Geocache Description:

St Stephen's Anglican Church in Paarl.

Standing quietly in Main Street, Noorder Paarl, the old church building of St Stephen's Anglican Church holds many memories for the coloured community of Paarl.

The church was built in 1876.

Former church warden and church organist John Martin said the church had been the heart of the community. "It was where people met in good times to celebrate their achievements and a place they comforted each other in times of sadness," he said.

Besides the church building, the church had a primary school, church hall, caretaker's cottage, rectory and graveyard.
