In the mid to late 1950s, lots in Del Monte Park were selling for around $250 each. That’s roughly equivalent to $2000 today. The area was outside of the PG city limits so it was not subject to city zoning or building codes. Given low cost of the property and the lack of regulation, Del Monte Park became a haven for artists, non-conformists and characters like The German and Good Old Roy, the junkman, who chose to build their own homes. The area also attracted blue collar families, young marrieds and older folks looking for inexpensive retirement homes.
As you drive around the neighborhood, you will see homes in every style from 1950s modern to traditional to Craftsman to just plain weird. This fusion of old and young. liberal and conservative, working class and bohemian made this area an exciting, vibrant place to live.
This cache is in front of a residence with permission of the owners (as Pogo used to say "They is us".) Neighbors are also aware that strange people may be stopping by and poking about. You do not have to actually go into anyone's yard to find the cache. When replacing cap, PLEASE DO NOT SCREW ON TIGHTLY
