A Long Way Straight Traditional Cache

** When you approach this cache, PLEASE do not park along the highway!  There is a nice little church nearby where you can safely park if traveling by vehicle.  When parking, please be considerate of our neighbors and avoid the church during services or other events. In the not so distant future, there will be parking on site, so STAY TUNED! Please also be careful along the roadways as you search.  The cache is in a very visible, open location. **

UPDATED 4-17-2023 - This is our family’s very first cache.  We have been participating in Geocaching as a family since the summer of 2012 and are enjoying our time together as we hunt!  The cache consists of a peanut butter container with appropriate decor.  The first items hidden with the cache were four firemen and the travel bug: "Run to the Cache".  This bug (and its running shoe!) were helped along their way very quickly and many more travel bugs have passed through this cache since. We always try to keep a fireman or two within as well since we are members of the local fire company!

This Cache is located in the Borough of Connoquenessing, PA – USA on property belonging to the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company.  As you explore the area, take in the country landscapes and friendly residents.  The borough’s name is unique as we are unaware of it existing anywhere else in the world.  Below is a nice description of the borough’s history, including the meaning of the name… ENJOY!

In 1792, Peter McKinney moved to Butler County. A year or so later he settled in what is now Connoquenessing Borough. It was for this man that the settlement and resulting village were named McKinney’s Tavern, Petersburg and Petersville. McKinney’s Tavern proved to be a convenient stopping place for people from the lower part of the county when they found it necessary to journey to the county seat.

Throughout the years, businesses opened and the economy thrived, with the oil boom occurring in the late 1800′s. By the 1870′s, there were over seventy producing oils wells in the community.

In 1871, the name of the village was officially changed from Petersville to Connoquenessing, a Native American Indian name meaning “A Long Way Straight”.

In 1898, Connoquenessing was incorporated as a Borough. Throughout its history, Connoquenessing Borough has been blessed with dedicated leaders who have helped it to grow and flourish, as well as diligent and productive citizens who have helped it to become what it is today.
