Geocache Description:

St Mary's Church, East Ilsley dates from the 12th century and stands on the site of a church that is said to have been built by King Canute in memory of those who died at the Battle of Ashbury. The nave is the oldest part of the church and the nine-sided font is also 12th century. The church was given to the Knights Templar in 1199 by King John.  and it was the Knights Templar who had the church rebuilt in 1240. The tower was added in the 14th century, but the north aisle was only built in 1845.

There is only really room to park one car alongside the church wall but there is plenty of street parking at the bottom of Church Hill near the pond.

At the published coordinates you need to find the monument to James the Priest who was born June AB, 18CD.

Now make you way to the pink granite tombstone at N51 31.490 W001 17.430. William Henry of The Hall was born February EFth, 18GH.

The cache is a 50 ml tube and can be found at:

N51 31.(H-B)(E-G)(A+B)

W001 17.(A+D)(F-B)(C+A-F)
