Hinky Dinky was a grocery store chain that began in Omaha and held one-third of the retail grocery market locally from the '30s to the '60s. The legacy began when Hungarian immigrants Moritz and Fanny Newman started a store called M. Newman in north Omaha.
When their son Jules grew up, he decided he wanted to take his knowledge and start up his own grocery store, called Benson Grocery, located at 6073 Military Ave. For two years, Jules operated the store in a partnership with Paul Wohlner (relative to the Wohlners, who are also known for their own chain in Omaha that still exists today). As the success of the store grew, Jules eventually bought out Paul's share and partnered with his two brothers, Henry and Albert Newman, and his cousin, Ben Silver.
The rapid expansion of more stores brought about the issue of what to name the grocery chain as a show of uniformity. Eventually the family agreed on Hinky Dinky, based off the song "Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous." They found the name catchy, much like that of one of their direct competitors at the time, Piggly Wiggly (which was later bought out by Safeway).
After the death of Jules' wife, Esther, Jules lost his desire to run the company, thus signaling the rise of his cousin, Herb Berkowitz. Three of Jules' sons also became involved, with his son Nick Newman assuming the role of president.
Smart business decisions allowed Hinky Dinky to survive the Great Depression, a patent lawsuit by Piggly Wiggly, mounting pressure from larger grocery chains aiming to run them out of town, a brush with the Black Panther Party, and many other obstacles.
Unfortunately, Hinky Dinky slowly diminished and was outpaced by its competitors after being sold by the family. Most notably, the management by the Cullum Companies of Dallas sank Hinky Dinky, as their lack of focus allowed competitors to enter the area and aggressively steal back the market. The most notable powerhouse competitor at this time was the Baker's grocery chain. Hinky Dinky storefronts began shuttering, and the name eventually disappeared from Omaha completely.
Many of the old stores were purchased by Nash Finch, a grocery distributor that operates under the banners of Avanza Supermarket, Bag 'N Save, Econofoods, Family Fresh Market, Family Thrift Center, No Frills Supermarkets, Pick 'n Save, Prairie Market, SunMart Foods, Savers Choice and Wholesale Food Outlet.
During Hinky Dinky's time in Omaha, it inhabited many buildings we still see today, and this isn't just limited to their retail locations. To accommodate the growth of Hinky Dinky, Jules had rented two warehouses. The first was located at the corner of 9th & Dodge. When the company had outgrown it, they rented an even larger warehouse at 11th & Jones. This enormous warehouse was advantageous to Hinky Dinky in their battle against giant grocery chains in the area. Finally, the time came for them to follow the trend of building a single-level sprawling distribution center.

Part 1 of the cache is located near this distribution center (as pictured above in 1966), which is now inhabited by a different company after much expansion.
Its coordinates can be determined by solving the puzzle below:
N 41o AB.CDE
W 096o FG.HIJ
A: How many stores were opened under the "Benson Grocery" banner?
B: How many words are in the name of the company that now occupies Hinky Dinky's old distribution center?
C: What is the first digit of the numbered street where the distribution center is located?
D: What number do you get when you add up the number of letters and spaces in the current distribution center occupant's name and divide by 4?
E: How many years was Jules Newman in a business partnership with Albert Wohlner?
F: How many times does the letter "u" show up in the name of the company that now occupies the distribution center?
G: The song "Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous" actually has a more formal title that is lesser-known. How many letters are in the middle word of this title?
H: What is the first digit of the highway closest to the north side of the distribution center?
I: The song "Hinky Dinky Parlez-vous" is part three of a three-part series of songs used as a medley in the march of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry that were very popular during World War I. How many letters are in the last word of the title of the song used for part two?
J: What is the first digit of the highway number that serves as the main street that runs east/west through downtown Benson?
Once you have solved the coordinates, proceed to the cache at Part 1, which will contain the coordinates to Part 2.
Although there is no evidence of Hinky Dinky's past at Part 2, this lot actually held the very first of the Newmans' stores to officially carry the "Hinky Dinky" banner.
Have fun, and good luck, cachemates!
