Geocache Description:

Super viewpoint looking west along Loch Eilt.

The Quidditch name is thought to have evolved from "Queerditch Marsh" where the first ever recorded game was played. It is a sport played on an oval pitch with 7 players in a team, who ride on broomsticks and two teams play against each other in a match. As the game is played up high the spectators stands are usually towers or in big world cup matches they are huge stands.

In each team there are two beaters, 3 chasers, 1 keeper and a seeker. The beaters use their wooden sticks to keep the bludgers (nasty flying balls the size of melons) from knocking their teammates off their brooms, as well as knocking them towards the opposing team members. The chasers chase, catch and throw the quaffle (a light enchanted ball that falls very slowly and is about the size of a football) around the pitch between them and try and throw it through the hoops of the opposing team. The keeper defends the hoops and the seeker tries to catch the snitch (a small golden flying ball the size of a golf ball).

The team scores 10 points for every quaffle that goes through a hoop and 100 points is scored if the snitch is caught; upon the snitches capture the game ends. Games have been known to last days before someone catches the snitch but getting the 100 points does not guarantee victory. The most famous loss by a team who captured the snitch was when Bulgaria's seeker, Viktor Krum, caught it in the Quidditch World Cup but Ireland still won by 10 points.

A fast paced game played all over the world in local, school, national and international tournaments the biggest prize of which is the Quidditch World Cup, held every four years. This sport has probably had the biggest impact on the improvement and development of broomsticks, the latest version being the Firebolt.

There are many different types of fouls that can be committed which are as follows:
Blagging - to seize any part of an opponents broomstick
Blatching - flying with the intent to collide
Blurting - locking broom handles with the intent to steer your opponent off course
Bumphing - hitting a bludger towards spectators or the keeper (unless the quaffle is in the scoring area)
Cobbing - excessive use of elbows
Flacking - defending the hoops from behind and hitting the quaffle out
Haversacking - when a chaser is still in contact with the quaffle as it passes though a hoop
Quaffle-pocking - tampering with a quaffle
Snitchnip - a player other than the seeker touching the snitch
Stooging - knocking a keeper out of the way so that your team can score

The Pride of Portree is a Scottish team based in Portree on the isle of Skye and they are better known as simply the "Prides". They were formed in 1292 and play in purple with a large gold star on their chests. They have won the British and Irish League Cup at least twice and their most famous players are captain and chaser Catriona McCormack, keeper Meaghan McCormack and seeker Dougal McBride.
