Geocache Description:

La construcción de este puente data del año 1775, sirviendo así para conectar a Españoles asentados del otro lado del rio con el centro de la ciudad, siendo uno de los pocos puentes en pie en esa época. (de los cuales llegó a haber unos 15) Para costearlo se realizó una fiesta de toros en lo que ahora es el Zócalo de la ciudad. En 1962 el gobierno decidió entubar el rio para detener la creciente contaminación del mismo, aunque a la larga causó más problemas ya que hubo que destruir varias edificaciones antiguas dañando la herencia cultural alrededor del mismo
Este puente recibió su nombre en honor a una gran familia que vivió allí, los Ovando.
……..cuentan las leyendas urbanas…..que la hija de los Ovando, por no haberse querido casar con un rico y tener como novio a un chico pobre, su hermano los encontró y los mató, desde entonces se dice que en las noches se aparece una muchacha en el puente pidiendo limosna y si no le das…..te arrastrara al rio!!

This bridge was built around 1775, used in its days to connect the Spaniards (settled at that time) with downtown. It was 1 of the main bridges standing at the time (there were around 15) To gather the money a bullfight was organized, which was popular at that time and people gathered at the Zocalo in downtown. In 1962 the government decided to tube the river to stop the increasing water pollution , though this caused many more problems cause many buildings had to be demolished damaging the cultural heritage around the river.
The Ovando family lived on the other side of the river and the bridge was named after that important family.
Urban legends tell a story…….the Ovando´s daughter did not wanted to marry a wealthy man and had a boyfriend from the low class, …..her brother found them and kill them, from that time people say that at nights……a woman wanders on the bridge begging for money and if you don´t give her….she will pull you down to the river!!
