Geocache Description:

[ITA] Lungo la scarpata che separa la linea ferroviaria Treviso-Udine dalla Strada Pontebbana tra Spresiano e Ponte della Priula, si possono ancora oggi notare i bunker difensivi costruiti dall'esercito italiano immediatamente dopo l'assestamento della linea del fronte lungo il fiume Piave a seguito della rotta di Caporetto (novembre 1917).
La ferrovia funse da confine tra la terra rimasta italiana e quella occupata dalle forze degli Imperi centrali, le quali riuscirono a superare il Piave in più punti durante l'offensiva del giugno 1918, senza però mai riuscire ad attestarsi stabilmente oltre i binari.
Dopo la guerra, la linea fu ricostruita e rimessa in servizio nel 1920.
I bunker sono accessibili, ma visibilmente ingombri di macerie e materiali di rifiuto. La cache è posizionata nelle immediate vicinanze di uno di essi.
ATTENZIONE: la strada è molto trafficata e la zona è completamente priva di parcheggi, per cui è necessario fermarsi nelle immediate vicinanze della cache per il tempo strettamente necessario a loggare, con molta attenzione.


[ENG] Along the enbankment that separates the Treviso-Udine railway from the Pontebbana road between Spresiano and Ponte della Priula, you can still notice the defensive bunkers built by the Italian army immediately after the adjustment of the front line along the Piave river as a result of the Caporetto defeat (november 1917).
The railroad was set as the border between Italian soil and the part occupied by the Central Powers, which crossed the Piave river in several points during the June 1918 offensive, but in the end never settled permanently on this side of the tracks.
After the war, the line was rebuilt and returned into service in 1920.
The bunkers are accessible, but visibly littered with debris and waste materials. The cache is positioned in the proximity of one of them.
WARNING: the road is heavily traficked at all times, and there is no parking available nearby. You need to stop by the cache only for the time necessary to log, being very careful.
