F              The Churchill area is home to more than _______ hundred polar bears. Subtract two for “F”.

Polar bears live in the arctic along shores. Brr! Polar bears mostly eat seals, and they often sit and wait at a seal’s breathing hole to get food. When the ice forms polar bears go out on to the ice to hunt. Only the pregnant females stay in the den because they need to raise and protect their cubs. In the winter, the females stay in the den and raise their young. Polar bears must swim sometimes to get their food because it is too hard to get it on land. Sometimes polar bears stalk their prey.

A polar bears fur looks white and the skin is black!

Polar bears are the largest of all bears, and are the largest predators on land. Sometimes two male polar bears will get in a fight over one girl so they will try to see who is the biggest and toughest. The males don’t help raise their young. They will leave and sometimes try to eat or harm the cubs.

Polar bears need our help!! Because of climate change, polar bears might become extinct and that would leave a big gap in the animal kingdom! So we need to try to help polar bears before they become extinct.

We can help stop global warming by:

* Not polluting or littering!

* Trying to not drive a car as much (especially when you need to go somewhere close to your home!)

* Donating to charities that help polar bears and other animals

*Going to the arctic! (You don’t have to do this one but then you could learn more about polar bears. And it would be fun!)

* Try to learn as much as you can about climate change and how you can help prevent it!
