Geocache Description:

This cache is placed just off the towpath of the Stratford-upon-Avon canal near Dickens Heath. The footpaths can get very muddy during wet periods.

The Pickwick Papers is the first novel by Charles Dickens, it began as a monthly serialization with the rather long title of The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, Containing a Faithful Record of the Perambulations, Perils, Travels, Adventures and Sporting Transactions of the Corresponding Members. The members of the club were to be sent on hunting and fishing expeditions into the country. Their guns were to go off by accident; fishhooks were to get caught in their hats and trousers. All these and other misadventures were to be depicted in Robert Seymour's comic illustrations with Dickens providing the text.

Following Seymour's death, Dickens took an active role in redesigning the project, the format was changed from 24 pages of text and four illustrations to 32 pages of text and two illustrations. Dickens also abandoned the original concept of the "sporting club", which had been Seymour's idea (Dickens noted that despite spending a portion of his childhood in the country, that he was no sportsman) and began to tie the sketches together into a more cohesive novel.

I recently had a First to Find on a local cache which contained a FTF trackable to be placed in a new cache with a sporting theme and this where I choose to place it.
