This beautiful Scrub Jay is only found in Florida. While you aren't likely to see one near the cache, the scrubby areas in Potts and Half Moon are the habitat it requires. Look for other caches in the area and watch for Scrub Jays!
As part of the Nature Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival 2013, we are placing 6 caches to celebrate some of the most beautiful birds only found in our region. This one is for the Scrub Jay!
For the first 6 cachers completing all 6 bird caches in this series and bringing proof (THE BIRD CALLING CARD) from each of the 6 caches to the Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Rd, 34601 (N 28 37.861 W 82 21.227) will receive a goody bag of prizes, from trackables to FL wildlife guides and more! One per family please and call 754-6722 to be sure the office is open.
The areas we have chosen are known for wonderful wildlife viewing, so take some time to enjoy your surroundings! Conservation of land and diverse habitat is important to keeping these birds and other Florida wildlife abundant. Eco-tourism helps keep our local economies strong. THis is in the beautiful Potts Preserve, just off a well marked trail. You are looking for a locked plastic. Inside is room for trade items and trackables.
Only use during daylight hours. Be careful of Florida's wild ones, the possible hunt dates, bring water and use bug repellant to enjoy your visit.
