safechrisLaurie: They opened up the trail from the boardwalk all the way to Hwy 52. In order to free up some room in the park, I am archieving this one to make room for others.

Also, this location was right next to a gopher burrow and I think too far off trail for the land manager's liking. Will find another location for a welcome to spot.

Geocache Description:

129 Acres total.  The Preserve is dominated by 69 acres of bottomland forest associated with the Pithlachascotee River and a small tributary - Ryals Branch - that crosses the site. The other natural communities are sandhill, upland mixed forest, and freshwater marshes. Protected wildlife species documented or likely to occur include the gopher tortoise, Florida mouse, gopher frog, little blue heron and snowy egret.

I spotted this area while looking for other geocaches. Binged it and found out that it had trails. There is currently 1.1 miles of exsisiting trails. Part of the trail is interpretative with informational signs. The other part will continue on across the creek. They are working on a boardwalk and another trail that will go from the nature center all the way down to Hwy 52 but it isn't completed as of 3-1-13.

I was able to navigate the stroller around the interpretative section of the trail. It's definately a bumby ride, but doable. They are also working on a playground as well.


The only bathroom facilities are in the nature center and each time I have gone there it has not been open. So please plan accordingly.

Also, the drive in is definately a bumpy ride!

The land managers want to see where geocaches are being placed because they will be doing prescribed burns in the area.
