La Storia
Era una volta la discarica abusiva che si trovava lungo il muro di cinta di Villa d’Este a Cernobbio, lungo il torrente Garrovo, che scende dal Monte Bisbino e si getta nel Lago di Como. Chi ci passava ogni giorno, per tornare a casa, non ci badava più ormai. Ma la signora Pupa Frati era convinta della necessità di porre rimedio allo squallore della valle.
Nonna Pupa fece richiesta al Comune di poter bonificare l’intera zona: “All’inizio era una zona dismessa, impraticabile, sassosa,e ricoperta di rovi, e sotto questi vi era di tutto.”
A proprie spese e grazie ad alcune offerte in denaro o in “natura” (piante, semi, terra…) la signora Frati, con l’aiuto occasionale di alcune fidate amiche, ha poi proseguito nella sistemazione della valle del Garrovo, riuscendo a creare già, dopo pochi anni, un bel giardino roccioso e qualche aiuola.
Oggi il giardino è splendido e rigoglioso, un vero e proprio parco pubblico. Le forze della signora Pupa non bastano più e per questo è nata l’Associazione Il Giardino della Valle, le cui quote associative serviranno a proseguire nel lavoro iniziato una trentina di anni fa’ che trasformò la valle dei rovi in un piccolo angolo di Paradiso nel cuore di Cernobbio.
Once upon a time there was a garbage dump bordered on one side by the ancient stone walls of Cernobbio’s Villa D’Este and on the other by the Garrovo stream, which runs from Monte Bisbino all the way down to Lake Como. Walking past the dump during her daily stroll, Mrs. Pupa Frati became convinced that it was not only possible, but also necessary to reclaim this land and return it to its original, natural beauty.
Grandma Pupa approached the municipality (Comune) and asked if she could undertake to clean up the dump: “Originally it was a place that was forgotten, overgrown and completely covered by garbage and debris. Everyone knew about it, but no one thought to do anything about it.” With her own hands and without any outside financial or organizational help – Pupa, with the participation of some friends (and her grandchildren) began to systematically clean up the garbage and reclaim the land. Today, roughly 20 years later, the public garden known as GDV is a tribute not only to Pupa’s determination, vision and persistence, but is also a small piece of Paradise in the heart of Cernbbio.

La cache

Il parco è aperto al pubblico tutto il giorno. Di notte il cancello è chiuso, ma non a chiave. Si può entrare, ma è consigliato fare la ricerca nelle ore diurne per godersi delle belle piante. Grazie alla Nonna Pupa per averci permesso di lasciare una cache qua.
Tutte le informazioni necessarie per risolvere la cache si trovano dentro il giardino; basta girovagare bene e tenere gli occhi aperti! Non è necessario disturbare le piante per trovare la cache.
Le coordinate nel listing sono per il piccolo parcheggio vicino all’entrata di sotto. Il parco si può anche raggiungere facilmente in pochi minuti a piedi dal centro di Cernobbio; si trova accanto alla Villa D’Este.

The park is open to the public all day; at night the gates are closed, but not locked. You can go in after dark, but it would be better to hunt in daylight to appreciate the beautiful plants. Many thanks to Grandma Pupa for letting us place a cache here.
All the information you need to solve the puzzle is in the park itself. All you have to do is wander around and keep your eyes open! You don’t need to disturb any of the plants to find the cache.
The listed coordinates are for the car park by the lower entrance. The park can also be reached easily on foot in a couple of minutes from the centre of Cernobbio; it’s right next to the Villa D’Este.
