Geocache Description:

Ready to step into the shoes of our park employees, and try YOUR hand at managing Everglades National Park? During your visit, we invite you to do exactly that—and this cache is your first stop! The Park Employee for a Day geocache trail is comprised of five caches (including this one) that follow the path of the Main Park Road towards Flamingo. You’ll be looking for traditional caches—each of which contains a particular case study that requires your attention...

For 100 years, the National Park Service has preserved America’s special places “for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.” Celebrate its second century with the Find Your Park GeoTour that launched April 2016 and explore these geocaches placed for you by National Park Service Rangers and their partners.

This simple park-n-grab is your starting point for the Park Employee for a Day geocache trail. In the cache container you will find a brochure with additional information about the other caches, as well as coordinates for each. We encourage you to take a copy with you. Although all caches are listed on geocaching.com, hunters should be aware that phone reception in the park is spotty. Phones and geocaching apps may not function, so a traditional hand-held GPS receiver is recommended.

At each subsequent cache, you will be presented with a different real-world case study for your consideration. Read through the information presented in the cache and consider how you might deal with the particular issue. Then, please be sure to share your thoughts when you log your find. This is a golden opportunity to weigh in on YOUR national park!

During your hunt for the remaining caches, please keep a few things in mind. For safety, please use parking areas where available, or park completely off the road and onto the wide road shoulder before exiting your vehicle. Visitors should also follow all posted speed limits on park roads and keep a wary eye for wildlife. Be sure to look for snakes, insects, or other hazards before reaching into blind openings. And please watch for muggles when accessing caches in very busy locations.

Please note: this geocache trail has been developed by Everglades National Park for the enjoyment of visitors. The placement of caches on lands managed by the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service remains generally prohibited.
