[PL] Zakręt Śmierci to ostry, drogowy zakręt prawie 180 stopni, na wysokości 775 n.p.m. Jest on najdłuższym łukiem na drodze w Polsce. Został wybudowany w latach 1933-1937 jako część Drogi Sudeckiej. Pod zakrętem znajdują się komory minerskie, gdzie ponoć składowano materiały wybuchowe, by w razie potrzeby wysadzić drogę w powietrze. Niektórzy wspominają też o skarbach ukrytych w tych sztolniach przez hitlerowców. Wielki Zakręt (bo tak go nazywano) złą sławę i nową nazwę zdobył po 1945 roku, gdy radziecka ciężarówka wojskowa spadła w przepaść na łuku jezdni. Zginęło wtedy kilkunastu żołnierzy. Mieszkańcy Szklarskiej Poręby wspominają też niezwykły wyczyn motocyklisty, który w latach 60. szczęśliwie przejechał motocyklem po murze okalającym zakręt, oraz sporo wypadków, niektórych zakończonych tragicznie.
[EN] Death Curve is a sharp road bend for almost 180 degrees, at the height of 775 above sea-level. It is the longest curve on the road in Poland. It was built between 1933-1937 as part of the Sudety Road. Under the road there are miner chambers, where explosive materials were stored to blow up the road if necessary, as the story tells. Some also mention the treasures hidden there by the Nazis. This road bend, called earlier Great Curve, earned bad name and started to be called Death Curve after 1945, when the Soviet military truck fell into the abyss and several soldiers were killed. Inhabitants of Szklarska Poręba also mention a remarkable feat of a biker, who in the 60's happily rode a motorcycle on the wall surrounding the corner, and many accidents, of which some ended tragically.
