Geocache Description:

Visit Crosslands Reserve in Hornsby

Crosslands Reserve takes it name from Burton Crossland (originally Crosland), a pioneer of the Hornsby and Galston areas.
Born in Yorkshire, Burton Crosland migrated to Australia in 1849 with his widower father James and 4 other family members. They lived near what is now Spencer, on the Hawkesbury River, where James Crosland established himself as a boat-builder.
Burton moved to this area in 1856 where he too built boats, raised his family, forged tracks to the surrounding areas and established a guest house. The dry swamp just below this cache leads to the creek to the northeast of the reserve, where there is now a raised boardwalk. There you can see the channel that feeds it which Crossland made to facilitate his boat-building.
The cache won’t be hard to find, although access could get tricky if the swamp fills after heavy or extended rain. If it's wet, approach from the SW rather than W.
