Geocache Description:

The cache is above ground - in case of dogs, but still within the reach of bears, so be prepared to climb high if you see any hiding in the dark!!.

Placed as one of the Far Side series of caches for the second of our two Geocaching events in the summer of 2012 held at Crombie Country Park.

The park is 102ha in area and includes Crombie Loch, broadleaf and coniferous woodlands, childrens play areas, orienteering courses, nature trails and woodland walks. Picnic and barbeque areas are available all year round and marquees can be hired between April and September.

On the loch you can see Grebes, heron and a variety of water fowl. The woodlands are home to red squirrels, woodpeckers, roe deer and hedgehogs but no live bears.
.

It's very dark under beech trees, the leaves are cleverly arranged to each get the sun but little sun gets past them to the forest floor. That's why bluebells come out early in spring before the leaves come out, and very little else grows underneath, except chanterelle mushrooms and other nice fungi.
