I grew up in Basket Range and think it needs a few more caches to show some of its more hidden treasures and places of history and beauty. This spot is right near where I used to work as a kid in the school holidays on a native Australian flower and cherry farm. The flowers and cherries run right along side this creek up to a magnificent old bridge, Deep Creek Bridge. The sandstone bridge is located a few hundred meters from this cache and is definitely worth a look. The bridge used to be part of the original road that made its way through this very steep area of the Adelaide hills. From the cache location the view is wonderful across the cherries and flowers to the old sandstone bridge, which is left only now as a tourist spot and the start of a lovely walking trail. The beautiful old bridge is used many a time for wedding photos and access track for fire trucks. At the right time of year the bridge is set amongst cherry blossom, cork screw willows and this meandering creek which never dries fed by natural springs in the hillside. Deep creek is part of the Sixth Creek catchment which supplies 60% of Adelaides water. for this reason please practise some cache in trash out whilst on your search.
The cache is hidden in a tricky little spot (no doubt a sinch for the experienced) and a drive by just on the shoulder of the road. (Beware of this road as cars fly along these rally like corners, keep a close eye on geokids)
Once finding the cache head around to the opposite side of the valley and there is an access track down to the bridge where you can take a closer look and go for a wander along this beautiful creek keeping your eyes peeled for koalas, kangaroos and numerous trout which inhabit this creek.
