Here is a cemetery that needs a cache, and is loaded with history. No admittance from Dusk to Dawn. Please be respectful to your surroundings. BYOP
James, Sr. and Elizabeth Speer Buchanan were store keepers in Cove Gap and later Mercersburg. They had 11 children, one of which became the 15th president of the United States. James, Sr died in a carriage accident in 1821. President James Buchanan’s niece Harriet Lane was the white house hostess while he was in office. He was her legal guardian after his sister Jane Buchanan Lane died in 1839. The parents of James, Jr. and Harriet are buried here.
