This is the sixth in our Cartoon Character Cache series.
Woody Woodpecker first appeared in "Knock Knock" by Walter Lantz in November of 1940. Legendary Mel Blanc was the first of many to voice him. He was nominated for an Oscar in 1944 for " The Dizzy Acrobat," and made a successful transition to TV in the 50's. He has his own song and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has a niece Splinter and a nephew Knothead. He still appears every fall soaring above the Macys Thanksgiving parade. Listen closely and maybe you can hear him doing his thing or is that a basketball bouncing.
