The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
There are over a thousand interments at this site, which has graves going back at least as far as 1869. This is an active cemetery with burials taking place through the present day. The grounds are a bit uneven and there are some piles of debris here and there, but there is ongoing maintenance, which takes place on the third Sunday of every month. Unable to determine if it's due to vandalism or weathering, but many headstones are in fragments on the ground.
You can drive onto the grounds when the vehicle gate is open (not sure if it gets locked), or go through a separate pedestrian gate. Either way, you WILL need to enter the site. As always--any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
