Geocache Description:

Nobody in our family has ever blogged. We've never really even thought about it, but an idea for a cache made us think maybe we should start one. According to blogger.com, a blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.

Random imaginary thoughts are not mentioned but since there are no real rules, that's what we went with. THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES.

Enjoy!

Our favorite place to vacation is somewhere tropical with palm trees, silky sand, and ocean water.  Unfortunately, we are too far north to find any of that here so we make due with muddy rivers, lakes, and rocky sand.   We found a nice little beach not too far away, but it doesn’t compare to the beaches in the Caribbean at all.

We love Disney World.  The last time we visited, though, it took us a really long time to get there.   Delta doesn’t have any direct flights from Omaha so we had a layover, and then the connecting flight was delayed, and when we finally got on the plane, it got rerouted due to bad weather.  By the time we arrived, we could almost have driven there faster.

Summer is for growing things.  We planted a garden and filled it with fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, cantaloupe, onions, tomatoes, peppers and watermelon.    We also put in oregano, parsley, alfa grass, and basil.   We’ve been weeding, watering, and keeping the rabbits away and are looking forward to August when we can start picking things to eat!

We have been looking for a new car.  Mom wants a nice practical car like another minivan, or maybe an SUV, but Dad has his heart set on a fancy Italian sports car called an alfa romero.  We’ve test driven all different kinds of cars and can’t come to any kind of a mutual decision.  The kids are more concerned with the color and making sure it has a DVD player so they can watch movies when we drive to grandma’s house.

Dad loves to golf.  He has fancy clubs and a bag filled with all kinds of balls, tees, gloves, shoes and everything else that goes with the sport.  He plays in a league and is pretty good.  Mom, however, is not.

The taste of Omaha is an annual event.  We go every year, and every year mom says she is not going back again.  There are too many people crowded into too small a walkway and to make it worse there are strollers and golf carts hauling trash trying to make their way through the crowd.   The food is good but it needs to be moved to a better location with more space.

We went to the pool the other day.  We visit different pools throughout Omaha to see how they’re different from each other.  When the kids were little, their favorite pool to go to was the one with the zero depth entry, but now they like to go to the pools that have diving boards and deep water.

Google comes in handy for all sorts of things.  The kids were having an argument the other day about which country has the most people in it.  They were debating between China and the United States.  We googled it and found out that China has the most, followed by India, and then the U.S.

We are thinking about taking a trip out west at the end of the summer.    There isn’t much to see until we get to Colorado, but we know there are all kinds of caches we could find between here and there.  We might go or we might just hang out in Omaha, we haven’t quite decided yet.

The kids were making a list of countries they would like to visit.  Australia was their top choice, with France and Spain coming in next.  At the bottom of the list was Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran.  India, Belgium and Japan were somewhere in the middle.

Dancing with the Stars is a very popular show, but not in our house.  We tried to watch it but all the different dances made us dizzy.  Ballet, foxtrot, waltz, flamenco are just not our thing.  The kids love the chicken dance and hokey pokey, but they don’t ever seem to perform those on the show.

With the kids home for the summer, we are always looking for things to do to keep everybody busy and out of trouble.    They’ve learned that if they complain they’re bored, they usually get a chore assigned to them.  As they’ve gotten older they’ve learned that mom has zero tolerance for laziness so even if they’re trying to do nothing, they make it look like they’re doing something.

We came across a list of the annual salary for average professional sports players.  No big surprise, but basketball is at the top of the list.  Players in the NBA earn millions of dollars every year.  At the bottom of the list is golf.   The average professional earns less than a million dollars a year and that seems to be a more reasonable amount.  It is only a game!

Have you ever been to the bat cave under the desert at the zoo?  It is one of the kids favorite places there.  They have tried to figure out where we are in relation to the desert above us and how it appears that we are so far under the ground.  They love to stand in there and yell to hear their voices echo.   Mom is just hoping to get out of there without encountering any bats.

The kids joined the summer library reading program again this year.  Last year they got a lot of fun coupons including passes to Coco Keys, a free game of mini golf at Papio Fun park, and wacky packs from Sonic.  It’s a great incentive to keep them reading during the summer months.

The Charlie Brown Christmas special used to be mom’s favorite holiday show when she was little.   Every year when it comes on, she tries to remember to set the DVR to record it.  There have been some other holiday shows on with Snoopy and the gang in recent years but the voices are different so they’re just not the same.
