Geocache Description:

About this cache:

Plan on about a mile round trip. From the provided parking coordinates, take the grassy trail and keep to the right (East side) through the orange/brown Forest Service gate.

Along the way, you will pass by a cemetery in a clearing before making your way past the pond. At certain times of the year, there is some growth in the clearings requiring you to wade through the weeds. Long pants would be a good idea. The fence around the pond is the project of note, however the cache is located just a bit further to respect the proximity of the small cemetery.

Scott-Booher Pond is on the site of a homestead dating to the mid-1800s. The pond was enlarged in 1991 and is managed for bass and bluegill. There are also some remaining fruit trees in the area from an orchard of the old homestead.

The cache contains a one-word clue which can help you earn a patch and find a bonus cache. See series details below.

Placed with permission of the District Ranger of Cherokee National Forest.

About the project:

This cache is placed at the site of an Eagle Scout project.

The fence around the pond was placed by an Eagle of Troop 133. The purpose of the project was to fence the pond to keep cattle out when the Forest Service had plans to graze the area. Due to the lack of perspective bidders a grazing permit was not issued.

You would find other Eagle Projects down in the Shady Valley below this mountain, however this one is being showcased to demonstrate an off-the-beaten path project.

About the series:

On behalf of the Ocanosta District of the Sequoyah Council, this cache series has been placed in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the original Cache to Eagle® project by GeoScouting.com.

For a registered Boy Scout, these caches can help fulfill the Geocaching Merit Badge requirement 8a.

Requirement 8a
If a Cache to Eagle® series exists in your council, visit at least three of the 12 locations in the series. Describe the projects that each cache you visit highlights, and explain how the Cache to Eagle® program helps share our Scouting service with the public.

Each cache in the series has a one-word clue in addition to the normal cache contents. Each clue is a point of the Scout Law. Take note of this clue along with the cache # in which you found it. Once you find the 12 clues (plus two additional clues), you will use the order to discover the coordinates to the Final Bonus cache. You will also have earned a patch for completing the series (while supplies last).

Remember, you must keep up with the clue word for each cache in the series to determine the Final Bonus cache location and earn your patch.
