Geocache Description:

The K2K is a "classic" Blue Mountains walk that goes from the spectacular sandstone walls of Kanangra to the Narrowneck peninsula of Katoomba.

The most common route takes you over several peaks, including Mt Cloudmaker, before you descend Mt Strongleg to the Cox's River, wade across, then climb up into the Wild Dogs, finally ascending to Narrowneck Plateau via Tarros Ladder (which are actually spikes in the cliff, although the track does ascend an unnamed metal ladder a little further along from Tarros Ladder)

The excellent track notes I used when doing this walk suggest good camping spots for doing the walk over 3 days. I decided to do it in a single day, which took over 18hrs, in the course of which my GPS logged 46KM and 2300 meters ascending.

For those who would like to record their own K2k experience with a geocache log entry, I have set up this multi. Before you start your hike you should visit WP1 (on Narrowneck), that will give you the instructions for the rest of your journey.

This terrain is rated 5 stars because of the length and steepness of the hike; there are no technical rock climbs or other "specialist" skills required. The terrain south of the Cox's is very rugged. While you will be following foot pads throughout the walk they are sometimes indistinct, especially at Dex's Creek and the lower reaches of Mt Strongleg, and you should expect to lose the path a couple of times. Do not attempt unless you have the equipment and stamina to survive a couple of days in the bush (including a PLB which can be borrowed from the Katoomba Police Station ) , nor if the Cox's river is flooded or heavy rain is expected.

The cache container currently contains only a log and a pen , although there is room for travel bugs.
