Chateaubriand est né à Saint-Malo en 1768. Son pére est marin, il a bien réussit commercialement. Cadet d'une famille de 10 enfants, dont quatre sont morts en bas âge, le jeune François-René doit d'abord vivre éloigné de ses parents, à Plancoët où il est placé en nourrice jusqu'à 3 ans chez sa grand-mère Madame de Bédée.
La maison existe toujours au 43 de cette rue.
Plus tard à ce propos il écrira dans les Mémoires d'Outre-tombe : "Si j'ai eu le bonheur sur la terre c'était certainement dans cette maison".
Croyante, superstitieuse et de peur de voir cet enfant mourir comme certains de ses frères et soeur elle suit une tradition de la ville, elle le voue à la Vierge de Nazareth qui lui donnera la santé en contre partie il ne doit porter que des vêtements bleus et blancs jusqu'à l'âge de sept ans. Ce qui fut tenu et en 1775 Madame de Bédée remercia la Vierge en faisant poser un ex voto dans l'église.
L'origine de cette croyance de La Vierge de Plancoët est ancienne, Toute une série de miracles se produisirent au contact de l'eau de la fontaine: des aveugles voient, des sourds entendent, des paralytiques marchent ! La population locale ne parle plus que de ces phénomènes et ces nombreux miracles attireront des pèlerins de partout.

Chateaubriand (famous french writer) was born in Saint-Malo in 1768. His father was a sailor, he succeed in commerce. Youngest of a family of 10 children, of which four died in infancy, the young François-René Chateaubriand must live far away from his parents, he was is placed in nurse up to 3 years with his grandmother Madame de Bédée at Plancoët. The House still exists at the 43 of this street.
Later he wrote in the book 'les mémoires of outre-tombe' : "if I had the happiness on harth that was certainly in this house".
His grandmother Madame de Bédée was believer and superstitious. She was afraid to see that child die as some of his brother and sister. She was following a tradition of the town, she dedicated the little boy to the Virgin of Nazareth who give him health against that the boy must wear only white and blue until the age of seven. What she did and in 1775 Madame de Bédée thanked the Virgin by placing an ex voto in the Church.
The origin of this belief of the Virgin of Plancoët is old, a series of miracles occurred in contact with the water of the fountain: blind see, deaf hear, of palsy walk! The local population spoke of these phenomena and these miracles and so the pilgrims will be attracted to Plancoët.
