Geocache Description:

In honor of this year's upcoming Earth day, we decided to create an Earthcache.

Welcome to a section of Turkey Creek in LaSalle.

What's a creek?

A creek is a body of water with a current, confined within a bed and creek banks.

-As defined on "Wikipedia"-

How does it form?

Usually it forms when water running on a slope becomes a creek when there is enough water to form a tiny rivulet with a channel to contain the water. In its early stage a creek carries water only after a rainfall. This is called an intermittent stream. In contrast, a permanent stream is one which has cut its valley deeply enough that groundwater seeps into it and keeps it flowing between rainfalls. At first the rivulet may form downslope but in time the rainwater runs together further upslope until it's at the divide.

-As stated on ohvec.org-

What purpose do they serve in the environment?

Creeks are important as conduits in the water cycle, instruments in ground water recharge and corridors for fish and wildlife migration. Creeks are core elements of environmental geography.

-As quoted from "Wikipedia"- ___________________________________________________

Turkey Creek / Vince Marcotte park & trail

Why did we choose this section of Turkey Creek to show you? We chose this section of Turkey Creek to show you because it's the section where we see the most wildlife such as... fish, herons, muskrats, ducks, snakes, snails, canada geese, turtles, deer and pesky squirrels.

Why is it unique?

This section is unique to our town because, aside from the Detroit River, it is our main watershed. It provides a habitat for animals as well as a source of nourishment. As residents of the town of LaSalle, it provides a place to skate in the winter, and canoeing in the summer.

The trail beside the creek is a beautiful place to walk and explore!

"Pirate Bridge" is always a favourite amongst children. +

+Be sure to check out my other caches while there!++ ______________________________________________________
