Tuharsky mramor

Mramor moze vznikat regionalnou, no nezriedka aj kontaktnou premenou (tzv. kontaktne mramory) usadenych vapencov. Moze tiez vzniknut metamorfozou starsieho mramoru.

Systematicku tazbu zacala az firma Bata v roku 1937. Tazili sa tu mramorove bloky, ktore rezali, lestili a pouzivali na obklady a dlazby. Po druhej svetovej vojne tazbu v lome rozsirili. V sucastnosti vsak lom nieje v prevadzke.

  • Odhadnite celkovu vysku kamenolomu.

Tuhar marble

Marble or crystalline Limestone is a metamorphic rock consisting of 95% carbonate crystals, most commonly calcite. The remaining 5% are different primes as clay, graphite and other minerals and organic substances that are colored originaly white marble.

Marble may occur regionally, but often the contact transformation sedentary limestones. It can be also created when older marble metamorphosed. This process produced completely by recrystallization of the original rocks or minerals. Temperature and pressure mostly destroy all deposits in the original rock. Pure white marble metamorphosis was very pure limestone. .

Quarry in Tuhar is located southeast of the village Tuhar. Limestone was mined here since the late 19th century. In 1937 Bata company started with systematic mining. They mined here marble blocks that were cut, polished and used for tiles. After World War II mining in the quarry expanded. At the present, the quarry is not operating.

Tuhar marble is striped and it is well know in the construction industry. The rock striped are varied, mostly gray, pinkish-brown, or purple. In polished form of a nice decorative rock.

When you go through the quarry, in the highest sections we can see pockets and cavities filled by red or yellow clay. They are old fossil karst formations or dissolved limestone form in the past.

Access to the cache

There is the gate at the entrance of the quarry, it block cars to enter the quarry, but around the gate is wide footpath.

To claim this cache you need to take a photo of you (voluntarily) with a GPS or your GPS only at starting coordinates, but DO NOT attach pictures, which can disclose answers for claiming questions. You also need to email me (via the link to my profile at the top of the page or to this link) the answers to the following questions:

  • How many layers (floors) are visible in the quarry and how high they are from starting coordinates?
  • At the starting coordinates you can see marble blocks. What colors you can observe?
  • What structure have the blocks at starting coordinates?
  • Send me the altitude measered at the starting coordinates.
  • Estimate the total of the quarry deep.

Feel free to log this cache. You may not wait for permission to log.

If your answers are not correct, incomplete, i will contact you by e-mail. But if your e-mail is not comming to me without 3 days, I will delete your log without notice.
