Known locally as Misty Mountain, Sassafras is a parish of sixty farms located on the old Wool Road, now known as Braidwood Road or Main Road 92.
Sassafras was the first Cobb & Co stop west of Nowra as it took a team of horses a full day to pull a coach from Nowra along the Wool Road ( Nerriga was the 2nd stop).
Sassafras was fleetingly considered as one of the sites for our national capital.
Here you can pick your own chestnuts in April & the farm here often has a fire burning for roasting the chestnuts that you pick on April weekends only.
A family of emus can be seen roaming the paddocks opposite here, and kangaroos often rest under the chestnut trees.
Sassafras is a gateway for bushwalkers into the rugged Budawang National Park.
