The Louis G. Harriman was originally launched in 1923 with the name John W. Boardman, a part of the Huron Transportation Company fleet.
It became a part of the National Gypsum fleet in 1965. The boat was built as a true cement carrier.
The boat last sailed in 1980 only to float at a couple of ports over the next 23 years before being sold for scrap 80 years after it first sailed.
The Boat is just over 729 feet in length and has a maximum load capacity of 5,500 tons. It is powered by a steam engine.
